【お題】レストランと家、どちらで食べる方が良い？
英検準二級の作文を添削してみましょう。
みなさんも、文を読みながらまず「ここが違うと思う｣という所を探してみてください。添削するという行為は、深く英語を考察するという事につながりますので、とても良い勉強になりますよ。
お題
５０－６０語で述べよ。
Do you think it is better for people to eat at restaurants or at home?
レストランで食べるのと家で食べるのでは、どちらの方がより良いと思いますか？

I think to eat at restaurants is better than at home. I have two reasons.
First, at restaurant, a professional chef cook a food so it is very dericious. I go to a restaurant once a month. It taste very good.
Second, at restaurant, it is not use much time to cook. The time to cook is about one hour. But at restaurant, we wait only ten minutes.
For these reasons, I like to eat at restaurant. （７７語）

【構成】
①意見 レストランで食べるほうが良い
②理由１＋具体的なサポート レストランではシェフが料理を作るので美味しい。自分は月に一度レストランに行く。料理は美味しい。
③理由２＋具体的なサポート 料理をする為に時間を使わなくて良い。料理するのには１時間ほどかかるが、レストランなら３０分ほど待つだけだ。
④結論 だからレストランで食べるほうが好き。
良いですね～。これは英検二級レベルの構成です。
【文法】
では１文ずつ訂正を入れるべき所を見ていきましょう。
I think to eat at restaurants is better than at home. I have two reasons.

①First, at restaurant, a professional chef cook a food so it is very dericious.
restaurant は数えられる名詞なので、一つか二つ以上か明確にする必要があります。この場合は問題文中でも restaurantsとなっていますし、頭の中で複数の不特定のレストランを想像してるイメージで書いていくと良いでしょう。restaurantのあとのコンマはあっても✖ではありませんが省きます。
restaurant,→restaurants
chef も数えられる名詞ですね。なので、ここで a をつけたのは偉い！だけど文の流れ的に「一人の｣と決めつけるより「複数の｣としておく方が無難かなと思います。
a chef→ chefs
次の cook a food ですが、ここでは a が不要です。なぜなら food は基本的に数えられない名詞だから。
a food → food
最後はスペルミスです。
dericious →delicious
②It taste very good.
taste （～な味がする）を使った文ナイスです。ひとつ前の文で It is delicious.と言っているので内容がかぶっていますが、表現の仕方、単語を変えているのでセーフでしょう。残念だったのは、動詞が主語に対応していないこと。主語が it なら動詞には主語が三人称単数の時に使う s をつけて下さい。
taste→tastes
更に内容のかぶりを目立たなくする為に、it の内容を明確にすると良いでしょう。今回の it は「レストランの食事一般｣ではなくて、「私が月に一回行くレストランの食事｣の事ですよ。と具体的にするのです。
it → the food there (そこでの食事）
③Second, at restaurant, it is not use much time to cook.
まずは先ほどと同じ
restaurant → restaurants
次は「料理をする為に時間を使わなくて良い。｣という意味で作文をしていると思いますが、主語の it が何を指しているのか分かりません。不定詞の仮主語にもなっていません。それと、ここが一番気持ち悪い所なんですが、be動詞と一般動詞が一緒に使われています。is と use ね。これはダメーーーーーー！！！！！いやーーーーー！！！！！この間違いを目にする度に「be動詞と一般動詞は死ぬほど仲が悪いから一つの文に接続詞もなしで一緒には絶対出てきませんからね。絶対絶対絶対一緒に出てきませんからね！！！！！｣と詰め寄りたくなります。（実際詰め寄ります。）まずこの文はbe動詞の文として書くのか、一般動詞の文として書くのか決めてから作文し直してみましょう。文をもう一度よく考えてみると、「私達は料理をする為に時間を使う必要がない｣とするとピッタリくるんですよね。なので「必要とする need ｣という一般動詞を使った文にします。主語は we ですよね。
at restauraut, it is not use much time to cook.
→at restaurants we don't need to use time to cook.
④The time to cook is about one hour.
文法的には別に何も間違っていないですよね。でも、「〇〇するのに△時間かかる｣という事を言う時に、真っ先にネイティブが使う形があるので、そちらも見てみましょう。
「〇〇するのに△時間かかる｣ と言いたい時は
It takes △時間 to 〇〇する（動詞） という表現を使います。なのでここでは
It takes about one hour to cook.
となります。こちらの方がしっくりきます。前者でも✖にはならないと思うんですけどね。
⑤But at restaurant, we wait only ten minutes.
まずは先ほどと同じ
restaurant → restaurants
wait only ten minutes でも最近はよく使われていますが、テストなら wait for~ とした方が良いかもしれません。
wait only ten minutes →wait only for ten minutes
but を文頭で始めることは会話文などでは見かけますが、文章の中で使う時には前の文からコンマでつなげて使う方が良いでしょう。at restaurants のあとのコンマはつけなくて良いでしょう。
But at restaurant, → , but at restaurants
ここで少し文章を長めに見てみましょう。理由２の部分をつなげてみますよ。
Second, at restaurants we don't need to use time to cook. It takes about one hour to cook, but at restaurants we wait only ten minutes.
具体的サポートから導き出される理由として「料理する為に時間を使わなくて良い｣より「時間を節約できる＝save time｣とした方がしっくりきます。それと at restaurant が二回出てきているので少し表現を変えます。
Second, If we go to a restaurant, we can save time. It takes about one hour to cook, but at restaurants we wait only ten minutes.
⑥For these reasons, I like to eat at restaurant.

結論ですが、設問は Do you think it is better for ~?でしたから、その形に合わせます。「どちらがより良いですか？｣と聞かれているのに「こちらが好きです｣と答えてはダメです。

完成しました！けど字数オーバーです！当然ですよね。構成が英検二級（８０－１００語）レベルでしたから。では字数を減らす時はどうするか見てみましょう。
【字数を減らすとき】
①I have two reasons. を省く
②結論部分を省く
③具体的サポートを減らす
（そして字数が減り過ぎたら①か②を復活させる）
④数語多い場合は無くても意味の通じる形容詞 / 副詞を省く
今回は①②そして④を使って字数調整します。
